The new Bournemouth Gateway Building will play a pivotal role in BU’s future development, especially in the field of healthcare, medical sciences, social care and social sciences.
The building is planned to open during the summer of 2020, with full timetabled teaching activity starting in September 2020, and will be the new home for the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Its 10,000 square metres of space will create a unified base for the faculty’s education, research and office activities.
FIS worked with Kier and Woodmace to deliver a competent design for the protection of the building from ground gas. Hydroprufe 9000 was used to act as a gas-resistant, damp-proof membrane. FIS developed a detailed design to deal with construction type which consisted of a combination of cast in-situ and precast concrete elements.
