This phase of the Lewisham Gateway redevelopment consisted of 195 apartments in two towers. John Sisk and Son Ltd were contracted to construct the buildings and the reinforced concrete works were subcontracted to Getjar Ltd. FIS worked with John Sisk and Son Ltd to produce a waterproofing system that would:

• Comply with BS8102:2009
• Comply with NHBC requirements
• Hold back a high water table
• Be suitable for application against steel and concrete piles.

Two types of piles were used, concrete contiguous piles were on three sides and steel sheet piles were used alongside the river. The basement floor slab is 1M below the river bed, therefore a robust waterproofing system was needed to ensure a Grade 2 basement was created.

FIS met all of the requirements by proposing a dual system of Maxiprufe 2000 and Hydrocrete concrete admixture. The Maxiprufe 2000 was fixed to both concrete and steel piles which meant there was a continuous barrier around the whole building.

FIS trained the Getjar installers on site and inspected regularly throughout the installation process to give those involved absolute confidence that the waterproofing was installed correctly.
