In its latest incarnation, this Grade II listed building has been transformed to provide seven floors of prime Grade A Offices. The former cinema and dancehall has been altered several times before and was partially destroyed by fire in 2014. With limited structural information to work with, a flexible approach to construction was essential.
FIS worked with Sir Robert McAlpine and Moortown Group to develop a feasible structural waterproofing strategy for the new basement structure that was to be constructed within the existing retained facade. With numerous difficult interfaces and connections to the existing structure, developing the strategy was challenging. However an effective design was produced using Maxiprufe 2000 Waterproof Membrane and Hydrocrete Watertight Concrete.
