This project created the first primary school for the University of Cambridge. This was the first completed project on the North West Cambridge Development. The contract was awarded to Willmott Dixon to construct this unusual structure.
As the construction was using external steel stud walling the waterproofing detail was to seal up the toe of the slab and under the external wall and onto a DPM on the slab. Willmott Dixon were looking for value engineering and aiming to save material costs on the project and so they came to FIS asking them to provide an equivalent system which was BBA approved and would be suitable for the job. As the school had to be open for the new school year in 2015, Willmott Dixon had a very demanding schedule.
FIS were able to keep up with the fast-paced construction programme and the demands of Willmott Dixon by producing detail drawings, liaising with the architect and delivering material on a next day service. FIS Quality Control inspectors then attended site for quality control purposes to check the installation was in accordance with the details.
