In their first development outside of Asia, Chinese developers ABP are developing the Royal Albert Docks area in Newham into a new high-quality business district to act as a gateway for Asian companies to Europe. The site is in an excellent East London location just across the water from London City Airport. Whilst the redevelopment is primarily commercial it will also produce approximately 1000 residential units and 150 000 square foot of Retail and leisure facilities. With 60 companies already signed up to the scheme, ABP expects the development will provide in the region of 20 000 new jobs.

The derelict old docks area is a prime area for redevelopment due to its excellent location and transport links. Multiplex Europe Limited started on site in 2016 and FIS worked with the Multiplex Construction team as well as AKT II Ltd, and Mitchellson Formwork and Civil Engineering Ltd. The derelict brownfield site required gas protection from high levels of Carbon Dioxide in the soil and so the use of Premcrete Combi-Seal was proposed.

The Premcrete Combi-Seal is a pre-applied membrane which protects against ground gasses and hydrostatic water pressure at the same time. It is tested in accordance with the new gas protection British Standard BS8015:2015. It is easy to install and is very flexible which makes it an ideal solution for pre-application.

This groundbreaking project is an interesting and exciting scheme to be involved in and FIS are pleased to be assisting with the on going installation. FIS are supporting the contractors on site throughout the installation process ensuring the quality of installation is consistent and compliant.
